Prepare the wallet: This is Ryanair's new standard for hand luggage and passengers will not benefit

Airlines continue to update their policies and changes are not just limited to tickets in ticket prices. The new rules also affect processes such as boarding, seating and hand luggage. In the case of Ryanair, after changes in check-in and boarding card, it is time for the airline to introduce a new rule regarding hand luggage.

New rules from November

Ryanair, a low -cost Irish airline, has announced that it will implement a set of new rules from November 5, 2025. The changes will cover all passengers and those who do not comply with them may face additional costs or, in more severe cases, lose the flight.

One of the most significant changes refers to the boarding ticket. From the announced date, the company will no longer accept paper tickets. Only those who present an electronic ticket can embark on Ryanair flights.

‘Strict’ limits in hand luggage

Also the luggage policy will undergo important changes. The maximum allowed size for free hand luggage will be 40 x 20 x 25 centimeters. Any passenger who exceeds these dimensions will have to pay a fine.

According to the company, the penalty for excess luggage will increase from current 60 euros to 70 euros. The Spanish regional newspaper writes that this measure applies to all passengers, regardless of destination.

Second suitcase only with “priority boarding”

For those who want to take a second suitcase on board, the solution is to acquire the option of “priority boarding”. It is a separate service, with a higher cost, which allows you to carry an additional luggage piece.

Ryanair also warns that anyone who does not choose this modality and exceeds the permitted dimensions may be prevented from boarding. In this case, the company reserves the right to refuse the passenger’s transport.

Late check-in will be fined

Another relevant change is related to check-in deadlines. The new regulation states that passengers who arrive at the check-in counter less than 40 minutes before the expected flight time will be fined.

The fine applied in these cases will be 100 euros per passenger. The company justifies this penalty with the fact that the check-in counter is already closed and the ongoing boarding process.

Penalization for those who lose the flight

The Irish airline also clarifies that the same fine will be applied to those who lose their flight and try to reserve a place next available. This policy aims to regularize passenger management in situations of lost flights.

According to the airline, the policy “is only available less than 40 minutes in advance and up to one hour after the flight time.” That is, there is a specific time window so that passengers can try to review each other to another flight.

Tariff applies by passenger and sector

This option is available to customers who arrive at the check-in counter up to an hour after starting the initial flight. However, the fare will always be charged by passenger and by sector.

The new rules come into force in November 2025 and apply to all flights operated by Ryanair. The carrier appeals to passengers to pay carefully the conditions before traveling, so as to avoid unexpected costs.
