The Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Basin Basins Black and Nare (Cornare), an entity in charge of environmental management in the east of the department of Antioquia, indicated that the animals were found in critical conditions “with signs of abuse and torture.”

“The six primates were found in a state of sedation, hidden in bodily cavities of the detainees, which put their lives and well -being at risk,” said Cornare in a statement in which he added that the animals were transferred to the Center for Wildlife Attention and Assessment for recovery. However, two of the six young were found dead “due to the precarious transport conditions.”

“Those responsible are in custody and will be prosecuted for Animal abuse and wildlife trafficking“He added the information. This case adds to other recent operations in which the authorities have rescued wild animals victims of illegal trafficking in the country.
