Ukrainian President stated that agreement is a staging; Russian leader suggested a break in the attacks from May 8-10, when the “Victory Day” is celebrated in Russia

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky (servant of the people, center), declined the 3 -day truce agreement presented by the Russian government. He said the proposal is a staging of Vladimir Putin and that Kiev’s goal is a lasting ceasefire.

“This is another theatrical performance on his part. Because in 2 or 3 days it is impossible to elaborate a plan for the next steps to end the war.”said Zelensky to journalists on Friday (2.MAI.2025).

Putin had proposed on Monday (28.abr) a ceasefire from May 8-10 and invited to Ukraine to join the truce. The period coincides with the May 9 celebrations, also called “Victory Day”, in which the Russians celebrate the victory of the Soviet Union about Nazi Germany in World War II. Generally, there is a large parade in Red Square in Moscow, which brings together thousands of people.

Zelensky stated that he would be in accordance with the truce on that date, as long as he was inserted in a 30 -day agreement. He also said that it is not possible to ensure that Russia will not be attacked during the celebration.

“If Russia is willing to take reciprocal measures-to establish absolute silence, a lasting ceasefire of at least 30 days. This is a fair time to prepare the next steps. Russia must stop the war and interrupt its attacks and bombings.”said Zelensky in released this Saturday.

In response, Russian Security Council Director Dmitry Medvedev said no one in Kiev, the Ukrainian capital, would survive to see May 10 if Ukraine decided to attack Russia on the 9th.

Already the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova, that the refusal of the Ukrainian represents a direct threat to world leaders who will be in Moscow during the celebrations. Chinese leader Xi Jinping will be 1 of those who will attend the event.
