In Germany, the digital radio network of BOS, which is used by security forces, dropped out. The cause of the failure is not yet known.
In Germany, a digital radio network used to communicate police, firefighters or rescuers dropped out on Tuesday afternoon. The scope and cause are not yet known, the Ministry of the Interior said. According to the DPA report, TASR reports this.
“The digital radio network BOS is currently impaired,” said the Office spokesman, who manages the BOS. “The Office and all its partners are preferably addressing the causes to solve the problem as soon as possible,” he added.
Possible cause of a failure
It is not yet known whether the outage has caused a technical failure or targeted disruption, for example, cyber attacks. The BOS digital radio network is a communication tool of police, firefighters and rescuers in Germany. It covers 99.2 percent of the territory and has more than 5,000 stations access to it.
According to DPA, the outage has been affected by several emergency centers and rescue dispatching or fire brigades in several Federal Republics. In Berlin, firefighters switched to an alternative communication system, as well as in Saxony.
Criticism of the system vulnerability
Police chief Stephan Weh’s collapse called “the worst scenario for security forces that shows how vulnerable the digital infrastructure is and how ruthless it is to rely on dedicated solutions”. “Communication is the most important tool in operation. After all, lives may depend on it,” he added.
