The opposition in the National Congress should file on Tuesday (6) the request for the installation of a Mixed Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry (CPMI) that investigates the allegations of irregularities in the discounts applied in retirement and pensions paid by the INSS.

The mobilization occurs after the Federal Police and the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) revealed, at the end of April, a scheme that applied unauthorized discounts on the benefits of millions of social security policyholders.

Federal Deputy Colonel Fernanda (PL-MT), one of the plaintiffs, claims to have obtained 182 signatures of deputies-a number of the minimum required of 171. In the Senate, Damares Alves (Republicans-DF) says he has paid 29 signatures, also above the 27 necessary for the opening of the Joint Commission.

Nevertheless, there is still a possibility of withdrawal of support. Republican leader in the House, Deputy Gilberto Abramo (MG), requested the removal of his signing from the request on Monday (5).

The federal government tries to contain CPMI’s advance. Members of the Planalto Palace argue that the investigation is already underway by the Federal Police and that a committee in Congress would have a political bias, and can be used as a wear tool against President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT).

Even among allied parties, there is dissent. Signed 11 MDB deputies, 11 of the PSD, 13 of the Republicans, 14 of the PP and 1 of the PSB.

Even with the supports gathered, the installation of CPMI depends on a decisive political step: the reading of the request in plenary by Senate President David Alcolumbre (Brazil-AP Union). Without this act, the commission is not formally open, which leaves the decision in the hands of the government ally.
