Survey of the City Hall states that students studying in municipal public schools attended more classes in the second half of 2024 compared to the previous six months.

According to the Municipal Secretariat, students missed an average of 11.6% of classes in the first half of last year, compared to 9.6% between August and December. In absolute numbers, this means 2.5 million less fouls in the municipal network in the period.

In total, there were more than 308 million classes held last year. According to the city, the data are the result of an active student search program.

“This movement of combating evasion and ensuring the presence of our students in the classroom is critical to ensuring the right to learn our students. It is an active search work that has been a lot of years with the help of guardian mothers, who identify and contact families. Last year only 22,000 home visits,” said Fernando Padula, municipal secretary of São Paulo.

There were also 1.2 million telephone contacts.

According to the secretary, the reduction of dropout is also due to a greater amount of technical and pedagogical training meetings with the school boards. There was an increase of 48.8% in the number of meetings in comparison of 2023 (1,887) with last year (2,808).
