The Cardinals Collection collected at the General Congregation before the start of the Conclave issued a statement on Tuesday in which It appeals to the actors of armed conflicts in the world to achieve a permanent ceasefire as soon as possible and discussed peace without preliminary conditions and other delay. Cardinals turned to believers with a challenge to pray for peace in the world. Informed AFP and Vatican News, TASR writes.
In their statement, the Cardinals regret that in the support of peace processes in Ukraine, the Middle East and in many other parts of the world, no progress has been made. Point out that “Attacks, especially damaging the civilian population, have, on the contrary, intensified”.
In its statement issued a day before the beginning of the Conclave, where the successor of the deceased Pope Francis will be elected, the Cardinals appeal to the closest possible closure “About the peace that the affected population and the whole world desires so deeply”.
Members of the Cardinal Corps met on Tuesday morning in the Vatican at the last, twelfth meeting before the upcoming Conclave. Only those from cardinals whose age has not exceeded 80 years may be elected to the Pope.
During his pontificate, the late Pope Francis addressed the world, especially those who make decisions, countless challenges for peace, at the same time showing his proximity to those who suffer from the consequences of wars. At the same time, František pointed out not only the wars that attracted the attention of the media – in Ukraine or the Middle East -, but also the wars “already forgotten by the world” for the length of its duration or due to the remoteness of the region.
As Vatican News stated, František believed in the power of reconciliation, the importance of dialogue and the urgency of the end of violence in all its forms. Very often he also condemned arms trade and repeatedly criticized those who benefit from the war.
