The sad corners where the sun is not shining and where a few clumps of grass and a lonely dandelion throws. “Do not worry with the lawn and rather fit the shady place with ornamental perennials that will be more than good,” recommends our expert in the podcast.
Podcast not only about the beds in the shadow is right here:
The corner has almost every garden and few gardeners dare to change it. It is enough to know exactly what to put in it. “The shade flower bed is a great idea. And it can even bloom,” recommends an iReceptář in the earlier to the ear in the ear Jana Bucharová, a garden expert of the Recipe magazine. And it also adds specific tips for plants that are downright well in the shade.
Hosta
Or also the ragins, ie lower clumps of heart -shaped shaped leaves with stalks of fine flowers. These are real queens of shady beds. “Thanks to various colored, even lane leaves, they are beautiful, even if they do not bloom. And the flower bed in the shadow clearly shines,” says the expert. They are not higher than 40 centimeters, according to cultivar. They thrive in damp soil rich in nutrients and do not have to worry about them even during the winter, because they resist frost very well.
Dlužicha
Somewhat more demanding than the bohvysky are the debris that you can sometimes find in the gardening under the Latin designation Heucher. Small leaves play with all possible colors and decorate the flower bed for a long time, some even remain colored and foliage until spring. “They are well in humous soil, compost, and when you mulch them, it will only benefit them,” suggests Jana Bucharová.
Thick
Maybe he suits the Latin name Pachysandra and comes from China and Japan. “Be careful, it can be pretty expansive and take the space of other perennials. Therefore, bet it where it will have enough space,” the expert recommends. On the other hand, it works well as a lawn replacement. Provide a light, humous and slightly damp soil and you are not surprised how far it will grow.
Sheepfold
Flowering perennial with fleshy leaves is an exception among plants that prosper in the shade. “It can withstand drought, which is a rarity,” explains the expert. It is very durable and during the winter its leaves will turn bronze. When it grows, do not be afraid to cut its flowers into a vase or use as part of a bouquet.
Čechrava
Do you recall a flower bed with fluffy clouds of white or pink flowers on a long stem? It was almost certainly Čechrava. Another perennial that will be willing to bloom even in the shade, or rather in a place where at least sometimes the sun shines. “There are many cultivars to choose from and be aware that it will grow massively and take a lot of space. Which may be an advantage,” says Jana Bucharová. It will thrive in permeable and slightly acidic soil. Then do not be afraid to cut off the inflorescences and when you dry it, you will be pleased even in winter.
