From April 1, legal entities and natural persons – entrepreneurs have started to pay a new tax on financial transactions in Slovakia. The measure is part of the consolidation package to reduce the public finance deficit approved by Parliament last year. In addition to SaS, the opposition PS and KDH also criticize the transaction tax. It is also modified by the CIS coalition, which submitted to Parliament a draft amendment to the Tax Act on Financial Transactions. CIS chairman Andrej Danko refused to coordinate his progress with the opposition. The coalition voice-SD also wants to negotiate on the adjustment of the transaction tax. Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) admitted the possibility of changes in transaction tax, but refused fundamental changes. He said it was irrevocable because it brings such a volume of money without which consolidation is not possible. According to him, the former government, which disrupted public finances, is responsible for the introduction of a transaction tax.
