The third Air Assault Brigade of Ukraine announced the use on the battlefield of unusual equipment that allows Ukrainian soldiers effectively fighting Russian military drones and airplanes. The air defense system has been qualified as an authentic “Frankenstein weapon”, as reported by the Polish Media .
Ukrainians report that their homemade mobile manufacturing air defense system is called “Dragon H73”. The nickname of “Frankenstein weapon”, as they point out, is because the system was created by combining Soviet R-73 missiles with an American humvee.
In this way, the improvised mobile air defense system, of national production, combines missiles of the cold war season manufactured by the Soviet Union with an American Humvee vehicle, the brigade explained in a statement through Facebook.
The commander of the unit, known for the nickname of “Szaman”, emphasized that the mobile system is based on the first Humvee and was designed to combat both tactical airplanes and large drones and the Shahed or Orlan. In addition, he noted that the system is used 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
They also reported that the “Dragon H73” is armed with a double pitcher that transports Soviet missiles R-73, which were developed in the 1980s, originally for fighters. Thanks to Ukrainian engineering, missiles are now used to tear down enemy airplanes and drones.
