On May 9, Russia celebrates with a military parade in Moscow on Victory Day, anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany during World War II after the final offensive of the Soviet Union and its allies. On the occasion of this celebration, the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has ordered three days of truce and has urged kyiv to respect her.
Ukraine has responded counter -facing the indefinite fire without conditions, although the president of the country, Volodimir Zelenski, has assured that he does not believe in the promise of Russian truce. “This is not the first challenge or the first promises of high the fire that Russia does,” said Zelenski, as the media has reported . “We understand who we are trying, we don’t believe them,” he added.
Zelenski expressed his willingness to deepen the negotiation and implementation of a high fire with Russia on Saturday, as long as Moscow acts in a “reciprocal” way, although he has lamented that, “for the moment, no one sees disposition, but quite the opposite.”
“We are willing to move towards a fire as soon as possible, even as of today, if Russia is willing to take reciprocal measures: establish absolute silence and a high durable fire of at least 30 days. This is a reasonable period of time to prepare the next steps,” he said.
Zelenski stressed, however, that all Russian internal rhetoric “is becoming more and more mobilized” and that “Russian propagandists continue to threaten not only Ukraine, but also other neighbors” such as Baltic countries.
Thus, the Ukrainian president once again urged his international allies to try to “influence Russia to accept a high total fire” as a prelude to “an exit to this war.” “This is exactly what we have been saying for a long time: without pressure on Moscow, Russia will continue to fight war,” he said.
He regretted that “the intensity of Russian attacks indicates more than Russia’s desire to continue the fight,” Zelenski said that Ukraine will continue to reinforce his air defense and prepare new packages of sanctions against countries and entities that collaborate with Moscow. “We are sitting a solid base for reconstruction,” he added.
The Ukrainian president has launched this proposal at a time when British intelligence estimates that 2025 could end up becoming the most lethal year for Russian forces since the beginning three years ago of the invasion of Ukraine and in which the high number of casualties between its ranks since the beginning of the year is not corresponding to significant advances in the fight front.
