The incident is the second of its kind in a week.
The fighter collapsed into the sea
The US Navy fighter on Tuesday, trying to land on the USS Harry S. Truman, crashed into the Red Sea. Both crew members – a pilot and an officer of weapon systems – were ejected before the fighter plunged into the water, the American news television CNN reported. The crew from the sea was picked up by a helicopter. The aircraft itself could not be found.
Two similar incidents
This incident is the second of its kind in just over a week.
Since such incidents are relatively rare, the fact that two similar in such a short time is likely to lead to an increase in the control of individual operations on the aircraft carrier, CNN added.
Both incidents concerned f/A-18 fighter, which is estimated at more than $ 60 million.
The previous case
In the previous case, there was a loss of a fighter in a situation where the USS Harry S. Truman ship in an effort to avoid the fire of Yemen’s insurgents – Húsi – made a sharp turn that contributed to the fact that one of the fighters fell overboard into the sea.
USS Harry S. Truman is deployed in the Red Sea as part of the US operations against Iran supported by the Husy Milicias in Yemen.
President’s statement
US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the Huses “capitulated” in front of the United States. At the same time, the Omani Foreign Minister announced an agreement on a ceasefire among Yemen’s insurgents and the US.
