Are you going to catch the train? There is strike, CP warns of strong disturbances in the coming days

The strikes that will remain until next Tuesday will not have minimum services, according to the decision of the Arbitral Tribunal, and as happened in the recent stoppage on April 28 and which, according to the union, had full adhesion.

The circulation of trains will be disturbed from Wednesday and until May 14, due to strikes from CP workers – Comboios de Portugal, called by several unions.

“Since no minimum services were defined by the Arbitral Court of the Social Economic Council, the CP does not guarantee the circulation of trains mainly on May 7, 8 and 9,” the railroad carrier said on a warning published on his ‘site’ on Tuesday.

CP thus provides strong disturbances in the circulation in those days, with Special impact between today and May 13, due to the marked stoppages against the imposition of wage increases “that do not replace purchasing power”, the “collective bargaining of wage increases” and the “implementation of the restructuring agreement of salary tables, under the terms of which it was negotiated and agreed” “according to the unions.

The strikes will not have minimal services, according to the decision of the Arbitral Tribunal, such as the strike on April 28, which, according to the union, had full adhesion.

“The arbitral tribunal unanimously decides not to set any minimum services regarding the ‘strike between 00:00 on May 7 and 24:00 on May 14, 2025 and strike from 00:00 on May 7, at 24:00 on May 8, 2025′”, reads the decision published on the Page of the Economic and Social Council, dated 2 May.

However, the services necessary for the safety and maintenance of the equipment and the facilities, the emergency services, the relief trains and all compositions that have started their march must be taken to their destination.

The Arbitral Tribunal states that it has considered minimal services for the 7th, 8th and 9th, where the stoppage takes a larger dimension, even understanding there are alternatives to rail transport, to the urban lines of Lisbon and Porto, taking into account the great pressure to search for those populations.

“However, it turns out that its realization (…) proved to be inadvertible for not being guaranteed, as to the percentage that has been judged as the satisfaction of the unpredictable social needs without, at the same time, to annihilate the fundamental core of the right to strike, the minimum safety standards of users in access to the railway stations and the use of compositions, according to the company”, stressed the company ” Referees collective chaired by Jorge Bacelar Gouveia.

Last week, the day a failure of electricity affected Portugal and Spain for several hours, a strike of CP reviewers, without minimal services, led to the total stoppage of circulation until 10:00, the last update of the company to the blackout, around 11:30.

The strike between May 7 and 8 was convened by the Union Association of Intermediate Railway Exploration Heads (Ascef), the Independent Union Association of Commercial Career Railways (ASSIFECO), the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (FECTRANS), the National Union of Transport Communications and Public Works (Fentcop), the National Movement and the Railroad Union (Fentcop) union (Sinafe), the Railroad National Union (Sindefer), the Independent Railway Workers Union and the like (SINFA), the National Independent Railway Union (Sinfb), the National Union of Transport and Industry Workers (SINTTI), the Independent Union of Railroad and the like (Siofa), the National Union of Technical Quadros (SNAQ) National Union of Workers of the Railway Sector (SNTSF), the Railroad Transport Union (STF) and the Metro and Railway Workers Union (STMEFE).

Already for May 7 and 8, a stoppage was summoned by the Union of Dodresses (SMAQ) and between 7 and 14 May by the Railway Union of the Trade Review (SFRCI).
