India announced military attacks on Pakistan on Wednesday, while Islamabad claimed to have overthrew five Indian Air Force jets. Increased tension between the two countries can lead to the escalation of a larger conflict.

The international community calls for moderation, but Pakistan promises to retaliate Indian attacks. New Delhi, in turn, said he acted in response to the massacre of 26 people in April at a place in the mountains of Caxemira – most Indian tourists.

Because it is a border region disputed, India blamed Pakistan by the attack. Islamabad denied participation.

Beginning of the conflict

India launched “Operation Sindoor” in the early hours of Wednesday. Indian authorities said nine locations were targeted, but did not give information if any Pakistani civil, economic or military facility was hit.

According to the Indian government, the 25-minute operation targeted “terrorist infrastructure” belonging to two militant groups-Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and Jaish-e-Moammed.

The name “Sindoor” seems to be a reference to a powder that many Hindu women use on their forehead after marriage. The Massacre of Tourists in April – who had men as victims – left several widowed Indians.

In turn, Pakistan says civilians were killed and mosques were hit in Operation Sindoor. THE CNN It has not yet verified these allegations.

A Pakistani military spokesman said six locations were hit with 24 attacks, some of which hit the densely populated Punjab province, according to the Pakistani army.

According to Islamabad, it was the most intense attacks that India has made in Pakistan since 1971, when the two countries have crashed one of its four wars.

Pakistan Response

In response to the attacks, Pakistani security sources said they were able to shoot down five Indian Air Force jets and a drone during India onslaught.

There was no disclosure of details about where or how the jets were slaughtered, but Islamabad said three Rafale jets were among them. Rafale fighters from India are valuable military actives that the country has bought from France just a few years ago.

India did not confirm the loss of any plane. THE CNN He could not check the information and contacted the government and the Indian army for comments.

An eyewitness and local government authority said an unidentified aircraft fell into the village of Wuyan in India’s cashmire. Photos published by the AFP news agency showed wreckage of the aircraft in a field next to a red brick building.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that the country “has all the right” to respond, calling India actions a “act of war.”

Sharif asked the Pakistan Armed Forces to “vingue the loss of innocent Pakistani lives” after an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) shortly after the attack.

How many victims are there?

At least 26 civilians were killed and 46 were injured by India attacks, according to a Pakistani military officer at CNN.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, a Pakistan Army spokesman, said that the dead are teenagers and children-the youngest was three years old.

Eight civilians in the cashmir administered by India were also killed by bombing of Pakistani troops across the border, according to an Indian source of defense at CNN.

What is the situation in CAXEMIRA?

Both sides also exchanged bombing and gunfire in the Control Line (LOC), the actually border that divides Caxemira on Wednesday (6).

Authorities in Caxemira administered by India ordered citizens to evacuate areas considered dangerous, saying that accommodation, food and medicine will be provided.

The attacks interrupted flights, with Pakistan closing parts of its airspace. Several international airlines are avoiding flying over Pakistan, while Indian airlines reported that there were interrupted flights and closed airports in the north of the country.

What motivated the clash?

Most Muslim cashmire has been a critical point in relations between India and Pakistan since both countries have gained the independence of Britain in 1947.

The two nations that emerged from the bloody British Indian partition – the Hindu majority India and the Muslim majority Pakistan – claim cashmira fully and, months after becoming independent, crashed the first three wars through the territory.

Now the region is divided and one of the most militarized places in the world.

India has long accused Pakistan of housing militant groups that make attacks through the border, which Islamabad has long denied.

The massacre at the Pahalgam tourist spot in April caused widespread revolt in India, putting strong pressure on the Hindu nationalist government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India immediately blamed Islamabad, which triggered retaliatory measures in which both countries lowered ties and canceled visas to citizens on the other side. In addition, India has retired from an important treaty of water sharing.
