How to find out if only you use the signal you pay for your own use? You don’t have to chase your neighbor’s children, it will be quite enough to take a few simple steps that you will be clear. It will be enough for a few minutes and you can do it without a computer specialist. Let’s get into it.

Turn off everything that goes

The simplest test will be to turn off all devices that are connected to the “wifina”. It will be better if you completely turn them off from the network. What is all about? Of course, phones, laptops, TVs, but also some other modern devices that have access to Wi -Fi – it can also be a personal weight or refrigerator. What happened to the router? If it still flashes like a race, there is probably something really strange. If there is no update, it will be time to look behind the walls of your own apartment.

Attempt for fearless

Another attempt by an ordinary Internet connection user may be a bit uncertain, but it is not impossible with a little courage to achieve the goal. Each router has its own administration interface that allows network management. So enter an IP address that you can find either in the device manual or on the underside. In the menu, locate the section such as “Connected Devices”, “Attached Devices” or “Client List”. There you will find a list of all devices connected to the network – with names, IP addresses and often MAC addresses. If you come across a device you don’t have at home, it’s time to pay attention.

Simple applications to your services

For those of us, who just chase the horror of the word “administration interface”, or “IP address”, there are still special applications, for beginners, for example Fing. It is a free tool for both Android and iOS. Download it and show you who is connected to your network.

The password must be strong

You may find that you were right and your suspicion has been confirmed. What about it? The first thing to do is to change the password. And no, password 1234, dog name, or street name will not be right. It is necessary to choose a really strong password in a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers and possibly other characters. Set the encryption to at least WPA2, but better WPA3. Don’t know what’s going on? Do not worry about it, son, grandson, or even the niece will surely cope. There are more similar options, more experienced can set a filter to MAC addresses that allow connection only your devices. An update of the firmware router can also help, which is likely to bring better “defenses” of the device.

Don’t you steal our signal, neighbors?

One option is also a fairly ordinary question about a reasonable neighbor. Perhaps his child joins your wi-fi without realizing it. Maybe she’s an older lady who moved to the next apartment some time ago, and her son agreed with yours that she would borrow a signal until she arranged her mother – and then forgot it. If you have reasonable neighbors, there is certainly such a decent question.

Protect your privacy and money

You should be really careful about sharing Wi-Fi. It is not only about the speed of loading sites on the Internet, but the overall security of your data, especially if you actively use internet banking. So it is worth ensuring the protection of the system so that you can sleep calmly.
