To taste the right piece of the American South, try to prepare fried sour cucumbers at home. This unconventional delicacy will surprise you with crunchy, spicy taste and simple preparation. And you only need a few ingredients and a little oil!
When you say frying, most of us will surely recall cutlet or fries. But fried sour cucumbers? Yes, you read correctly. This American bizarre may sound first good as a culinary joke, but believe it is a surprisingly addictive goodness that will get you with its contrasting taste and crispness. It comes from the American South, where almost everything is fried, and this is where this unexpected hit of the festival stalls was created. Fried Pickles are no novelty. The first recipe was the light of day as early as the 60s and since then has won the hearts and stomachs of thousands of people. Preparing them at home is not difficult and the result may shock you in the best sense.

Recipe for fried pickled cucumbers
Loading cucumbers are usually recommended for frying. But if you do not come across the right ones, you can easily use Czech loading. Choose ideally smaller cucumbers that either cut into thicker slices or you can overflow. It is important to dry the cucumbers thoroughly with a paper towel to keep the batter well. You will need 120 g of smooth flour, 30 to 40 g of corn starch, 1 egg, 240 ml buttermilk, 2 teaspoons of salt, ½ teaspoon of ground pepper, ½ teaspoon of smoked peppers and ½ teaspoon of garlic powder. In addition, vegetable oil for frying and popular dressing, such as rančerský, for administration.
Prepare the batter before frying. In one bowl, mix flour, corn starch and spices. In another bowl, whisk the eggs with buttermilk and then whisk both mixtures into a smooth batter. Dry the cucumbers thoroughly and gradually soak them in the batter to be evenly coated. Heat a sufficient amount of oil to a temperature of about 190 ° C in a pan or in a saucepan. Once the oil is hot enough, put the cucumbers into the oil in several pieces and fry them for 1 to 2 minutes until golden brown. Once done, remove them from the oil and let them drip on a paper towel.
Fried cucumbers are the best still hot and crunchy. Serve them with dressing, preferably rancor, but you can also choose another cream dressing according to your taste. If you like a more hot version, feel free to add a pinch of chilli to the batter. It is important that the oil is hot enough. If the temperature is lower, the batter soaks up too much fat, causing cucumbers greasy. And even if it may seem like a special combination, fried cucumbers will pleasantly surprise you with its taste and crunchy.
