There is a curious similarity between this conclave and the one that happened 12 years ago
It has been 12 years since the conclave that elected Pope Francis and a lot has changed however, but there is a detail that remains: when all the eyes are focused on the sistine chapel, waiting for smoke signs, a seagull poses by the chimney.
It happened in 2013, when Pope Francis was elected, such a I ate caught in this photograph by photographer Christopher Furlong.
And it happened this year – a seagull posed for large minutes on the roof of the Sistine chapel, next to the chimney that reveals what is happening at the meeting of the cardinals to elect Francisco’s successor.
Seagull poses next to the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, during the conclave to elect Francisco’s successor
This is the first day of the conclave that will elect Pope Francis’ successor. The first signs of smoke should have been released at 7 pm (local time, 18h00 in mainland Portugal), but almost two hours have passed without any signs in the chimney – in addition to the curious resemblance between the seagulls that elect the chimney as a place of display.
