High Tourism: Mountain wins two river beaches and recess zones

The Damgil Dam, in the municipality of Ponte de Sor, Portalegre district, will ‘win’ two river beaches, in an investment of two million euros, revealed this Wednesday to the Lusa agency the vice-mayor, Rogério Alves.

According to the mayor, this project arises within the scope of an action plan to appreciate that reservoir.

The works for the creation of the first river beach, called Tesos Beach, should start later this month, and is expected to be created restaurant, permanent sandbar, floating pool, gaming field, playground, lunch park, parking lot and pedestrian paths.

“At this time, the work is awarded and awaits the Court of Audit visa,” he said, noting that the endeavor should be around “one million euros”.

Rogério Alves also indicated that he expects this equipment to be “operating in the middle of 2026”.

The second river beach, “also focused on a bet on tourism”, will appear in the cornfront zone, the mayor indicated.

“We are already in negotiations with owners in the cornfront zone of the lady to execute the second river beach. The project is already finished and approved with the competent authorities,” he added.

The investment in this second river beach, he added, will be similar to that of Praia dos Tesos, but a date is not yet set to start the works.

The mayor explained that leisure parks will still emerge on the banks of the reservoir, zones “that cannot be called beaches”, as they are spaces that will not be concessioned nor will have surveillance by saver swimmers.

The action plan for the valorization of the Mountain dam aims to contribute to the capture of more investments and to the attraction of more tourists to the region.

The strategy was approved at a House meeting on November 27, 2024, and at a municipal meeting meeting on December 12 also last year.
