The government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) rejected on Tuesday (6) a proposal from the administration of Donald Trump, from the United States, to classify the Brazilian criminal factions First Command of the Capital (CCP) and Red Command (CV) as terrorist organizations.
The request was made during a meeting in Brasilia between Brazilian authorities and one, interim chief of the Sanctions Coordination of the US State Department. The information is from the newspaper Estadão.
According to the US government, the designation as terrorists would allow the United States to apply more severe sanctions against factions, based on their anti -terrorism legislation. The Brazilian government, however, rejected the proposal, arguing that the national legal system does not fit criminal factions such as terrorist organizations, since its activities have no ideological motivation, but are focused on the profit of illicit activities. Representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice and Public Security, in addition to the Federal Police, stressed that the country adopts policies to combat organized crime, including the isolation of factions of factions in federal prisons and the joint action of police and public ministries.
The meeting took place amid speculation about Gamble’s visit, which had been announced by federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) as a (STF), Alexandre de Moraes. However, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), who also received members of the American delegation, denied that the issue was discussed.
