The limescale is known as a more or less hidden enemy of many devices and devices in the home. People living in soft water sites often do not even realize what they are lucky. Their homes are not clogged so quickly by the scale. But what should those who have not won this lottery?

Where are you used to eliminate limescale? It is certainly an electric kettle, then water taps, washing machine, dishwasher and toilet. But when we are at the toilet – if, in addition to the bowl itself, do you also take care of the water tank? Not likely, for the only one simple reason: the limescale is not visible here…

A perfect environment for bacteria

The water tank at the toilet is one of the places where limescale, but also other deposits, accumulate in large. And if only that – a rough surface that is created on otherwise smooth ceramics, literally attracts to settle various bacteria and other microorganisms, which in the end are a source of odors that we certainly do not want to feel in the home. This is only one side of the coin so far, but the other is not a win. In addition, limescale in higher layers leads to clogging the necessary holes and poor flushing function. Before the toilet breaks, let’s learn to get rid of the scale from its reservoir correctly and efficiently.

Close and drain the water

Let’s go into it and in a moment you will be able to go to sleep. First, however, turn off the water supply to the toilet before flushing. This empties the tank, which is necessary for this activity. You can wipe the remaining water with a sponge. Now pour vinegar into the tank instead of water, feel free to use the whole liter bottle, nothing happens, it does not cost thousands, but the result will be better.

Also try citric acid

If you do not have vinegar, a similar way is also a solution of five tablespoons of citric acid in the same volume of warm water. Both substances effectively distribute calcium deposits and disinfect. The advantage is that they do not burden the environment and are not aggressive to plastics or seals. Once one of the fluids is in place, close the tank with the lid and leave for at least a few hours, but ideally overnight.

In a few minutes will be done

In the morning there will be no other work for you than to clean the limescale with a sponge or brush. But it will not be difficult work, it has already done vinegar or citric acid. Once it is done, reopen the water supply and allow the tank to fill and flush several times in a row. Done – it wasn’t so complicated, didn’t it?

Beware of chemistry

If you decide to use chemistry instead of these natural methods, beware of the composition of the products, because some of them may etch the seals and other artificial parts of the whole system at a higher concentration. Instead of helping, you would rather get the toilet (and thus your own wallet). A big mistake is also a combination of various products, because we can unknowingly prepare a volatile mixture whose toxic vapors may not be healthy at all for a person, but also for pets.

Prevention in the first place

A short but important advice in the end: do not neglect prevention. It is definitely worth repeating this event every two months (or even more often in places with really hard water) than to worry about every six months with high water stone deposits and great problems with its removal.
