The men’s cardinals took a lot of time and the over 50,000 onlookers who flocked to St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday evening have been waiting for a long time: instead of as expected at 7:00 p.m. or at the latest 7.30 p.m., the black smoke only climbed over the Sistine chapel at 9:00 p.m. in the Roman sky.
