Going is good for health, so far. But how many steps do something is less obvious. There is often talk of 10,000 steps, but this number is likely to be arbitrary and to advertise one of the first pedometers in general-that of a Japanese company-in the 1960s. Some studies already see between 2500 and 4000 steps a positive effect. The ideal extent should be in between, at least for senior citizens – this is shown by a current study that im British Journal of Sports Medicine has appeared.
