The Senate bench diverged from the party’s bench in the House of Representatives and announced on Tuesday (6) that it will remain at the base of the Lula government (PT), after the departure of the Ministry of Social Security.
The decision was made unanimously by the three party senators: Weverton Rocha (MA), group leader, Ana Paula Lobato (MA) and Leila Barros (DF). The bench said it considered the affinity with the Lula government in the Senate and in terms of a project for the country.
“The decision was made based on the affinity of the bench with the government both in the project of development for Brazil and most of the Senate guidelines. The Senate bench respects the position of the bench in the House of Representatives and, although it has a different position, reiterates that the party remains united in defense of labor ideals,” Weverton said in a statement.
The House bench announced on Tuesday that it will be “independent”. FEDERAL PARTY MPs also decided to discuss alternative candidacies for the 2026 presidential election.
“Right now we are putting ourselves in independence position,” said PDT leader in the House, Mario Heringer (MG). “The PDT in the previous election has offered an alternative to the presidency and we think we can also offer alternative to 2026.”
In 2022, the PDT launched the presidency, which was fourth, with only 3% of the valid votes. The acronym supported Lula in the second round.
The decision to leave the government base was taken at a meeting of party deputies with Lupi on Tuesday morning. Ciro did not participate in the meeting.
Lupi delivered the position last Friday (2) in front of the scandal of illegal discounts in retirement and pensions of the (National Institute of Social Security).
Although the new minister, Wolney Queiroz, also being from the PDT, the exchange bothered part of the acronym. Federal deputies argue that Lupi is not quoted in investigations and treat Wolney (formerly two social security) as a personal choice of Lula.
