American Vice President of JD Vance on Wednesday called for direct negotiations between Moscow and Kiev as part of an effort to end a three -year war in Ukraine. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.
“We think it is probably impossible for us to mediate it without any direct negotiations between the two parties.
The United States warns
The US has conducted special negotiations with Ukraine and Russia on the end of the conflict, and if it does not make progress, they warned of resignation from mediation.
Vance also mentioned Europe, with which the US is a “one team”. “I think this European Alliance is very important, but to be important and at the same time we are very good friends – and I think we are real friends – we have to talk about important questions,” he said.
Criticism of Europe
Vance of the Allies surprised when he criticized the EU policy in the field of immigration and freedom of expression in February’s speech in Munich’s Security Forum. According to his words, freedom of expression across Europe is in decline, and that censorship is a greater threat than the military aggression of Russia or China.
On Wednesday, however, he spoke of common ties of countries that converge them. “European civilization and American civilization, European culture and American culture are very interconnected and will always be linked,” he stressed. “It is absolutely ridiculous to think that sometimes we can hit the wedge among the United States and Europe,” he added.
The question of a nuclear agreement
At the conference, Vance also devoted himself to the Iranian nuclear agreement. According to him, negotiations between the US and Iran are “on the right track” and Tehran will be able to maintain a nuclear program for civilian purposes, but not for the production of nuclear weapons.
“We don’t care if people want nuclear energy. This is okay, but you can’t have a enrichment program that allows the production of a nuclear weapon, we set the border there,” he stressed.
From April 12, three rounds of indirect interviews of Iran and the United States have been held at the highest level since 2018, when Trump resigned from the nuclear agreement of the Great Powers with Iran. However, the next round of negotiations on the Tehran nuclear program scheduled for 3 May was postponed. Oman as an intermediary said it happened for “logistical reasons”.
