– This is a harmless substance from the organic acid group containing sulfur atoms. The result of the transformation of this acid in our digestive system is the formation of metabolites, which are easily excreted from our body in urine and their presence is attributed to the characteristic smell of urine – explained Dr. Małgorzata Starowicz from the Department of Chemistry and Biodynamics of Food IRZIBŻ Lord in Olsztyn.
Interestingly, asparagus acid in such a high concentration occurs only in asparagus. An unpleasant smell can appear quickly, even after 20 minutes from the moment you eat this vegetable. It should be noted, however, that generally an unpleasant smell of urine can be a symptom of diseases, especially those from the urinary tract. Therefore, you should not lose vigilance in observing your body, but without fear – after eating asparagus, the unpleasant smell is not disturbing, and asparagus is worth eating because of the taste and lots of healthy properties.
