The Senior Counselor for Western Hemisphere Affairs in the US State Department, the equivalent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brazil, Ricardo Pita, met with the former president () visiting Brasilia.
The meeting took place on Monday (5), according to information released by the licensed deputy (PL-SP).
“Yesterday, senior counselor Mr. Pita met with President Jair Bolsonaro in his home, where he recovered from surgery. Bolsonaro highlighted urgent threats to Brazilian democracy and US interests in the region. Pita expressed support for President Bolsonaro and promised to bring his message back to Washington DC, US capital,” Eduardo said on social networks.
The senator (PL-RJ) also participated in the meeting.
On Monday (5), Flávio met in his office with Pita, but stated that the meeting was not intended to discuss sanctions against the minister, (Supreme Federal Court), as Eduardo Bolsonaro had appointed.
“The subject here has nothing to do with sanctions, regarding anyone, as was dealt with there by the press. This meeting was not for that,” said Flávio, at the end of the meeting with Pita, which lasted just over 40 minutes.
Flávio was expected to meet David Gamble, interim chief of sanction coordinations of the State Department, which makes an official visit to Brazil. Only Pita, however, attended the senator’s office.
The visit of the American entourage was explored by Eduardo last Friday (2). He was in Washington this week – he has been living in the US since March. The parliamentarian told the Sheet who met with people in the state department and also from the White House, without detailing the names.
This week, he will have a new meeting with representatives of Donald Trump government, along with journalist Paulo Figueiredo, former presenter of young Pan, also the target of Moraes actions.
Eduardo said to Sheet Consider the gesture as a sign that Trump considers to apply sanctions to the STF minister, something he considers likely.
A member of the Lula government (PT) minimized the symbolism of the meeting. He said Bolsonaro managed to meet a “sub” of the State Department, who was not even the leader of the entourage he traveled to Brazil, so he should not have the power to shake relationships.
Eduardo has lived in the United States since March, when he licensed his term, claiming to have his passport revoked by Moraes. He has been acting for Trump to sanction the STF minister, preventing his entry into the US.
According to two people involved in the negotiations, linked to Bolsonaro, Donald Trump government officials have signs that they agree to the application of sanctions.
They do not say the names of the people with whom they talk, but claim that the negotiations have been given in second and sometimes first echelon of the Trump administration.
