The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk expressed concern on Wednesday that the new Israeli plan to expand its military offensive in the Gaza Strip aims to create conditions that endanger the continuing existence of Palestinians in this territory. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.

“The announced plans of Israel forcibly move the Gaza population to a small area in the south of the Gaza Strip and the threats of Israeli representatives to deport Palestinians outside Gaza even more deepens the concerns that Israeli proceedings are aimed to impose living conditions on Palestinians, which are increasingly incompatible with their continued existence.”

The UN Commissioner claims that there is no reason to believe that the intensification of military strategies that have not led to a permanent solution or release of all hostages last year and eight months will now be successful.

“Instead, the extension of the Gaza offensive almost certainly will certainly cause further mass displacement, more deaths and injuries of innocent civilians, and the destruction of Gaza infrastructure remnants,” he added.

The Israeli security cabinet on Sunday unanimously decided to intensify the offensive against the Palestinian militant Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip. The approved plan according to an Israeli representative includes “conquest of Gaza and maintaining territories”. The Israeli army should take control and move civilians to the south, attack Hamas and prevent him from taking control of humanitarian aid, the Times of Israel (Toi) wrote on Monday. Israel has already called tens of thousands of midfielder to the planned extension of his offensive.

In addition, Israel has been blocking the supply of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and 18 March after almost two months of the ceasefire, Israel has renewed the fighting. The UN and humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned of a humanitarian disaster in this Palestinian enclave, where there is a threat of famine.

During the war, which broke out in October 2023, almost all of the approximately 2.4 inhabitants of the Gaza band were displaced at least once.

Türk warned that the Israeli offensive would worsen people affected by nine weeks, a blockage of basic needs. According to him, the inhabitants of the Gaza band were deprived of all the life of saving needs, especially food. He claims that Israel tirelessly attacks community cuisine and those who seek to maintain at least minimum order and law.

“Any use of starvation of the civilian population as a method of war is a war crime,” Türk said. The only permanent solution to this crisis is to fully comply with international law, the UN Commissioner added.
