O Palm trees was fined by Conmebol in 50 thousand dollars (R $ 285.7 thousand) Due to racist gestures made by a club fan during the match against Cerro Porteño, at Allianz Parque, on April 9, by Libertadores.
The club said it will uphold the decision, but will seek in court the compensation of the amount by the official. THE supporter was identified the day after the incidentexcluded from the Avanti partner program and banned from attending games at Allianz Parque.
Identification was possible thanks to Allianz Parque’s facial recognition system and security cameras. The name of the fan was not disclosed, but Palmeiras has already sent an extrajudicial notification communicating the measures adopted.
The board had decided from the beginning that it would trigger the fans in court, anticipating the possibility of punishment by the South American entity.

Conmebol opened a disciplinary procedure shortly after Verdon’s 1-0 win. Images that circulated on social networks showed a group of fans in the Gol South sector making offensive gestures towards a cabin where members of the Cerro Porteño delegation were.
One of the fans was filmed by gesturing a monkey.

In a note after the game, Palmeiras positioned themselves firmly:
“We do not tolerate prejudiced behaviors, especially in our home, and we will continue to extirpate from South American stadiums any form of discrimination.”
According to the disciplinary code of Conmebol, the minimum amount of the fine for discriminatory acts is $ 100,000 (R $ 571.5 thousand), when motivated by color, race, sex, sexual orientation, ethnicity, language, creed or origin.
The penalty can be reduced if the club collaborates with the investigation, as was the case of Palmeiras.
