Do you remember the 1970s? Whether you were already adults or children at the time, you will never forget the desserts that were sold at the time. They had the same shape, size and decorating in Aš, or even in Kročehlavy. Which we liked most?
“Two pinwheels, stocking and three lasons”. Similarly, there were many orders in the pastry shops at that time. Although we can buy the same desserts today, in the competition of other modern cakes they are a little lost. Moreover, everyone tastes a little differently according to a specific confectioner, so we never really know if we will taste this. In addition, fifty years ago, sugar was not considered as a killer as today, and we could enjoy the sweets with smaller remorse. Let’s leave aside the controversy about whether it was good or not – it is time to return to the past.
Two creams in a pinwheel
We remembered Větrník. Can you recall the taste? A launched dough full of caramel and vanilla cream with a caramel topping on top that crunched as soon as we touched her with a spoon or fork. At that time it was a more festive dessert, for which even more experienced housekeepers liked to go to the pastry shop. His home preparation is still one of the subjects for “higher girls”, but who would like to do such a job if the pastry shop is always successful? Moreover, at a time when state standards precisely determined what it would look like and taste.
Colored punch for everyone
He was (and is) colored, quite wet, with a distinctive rum aroma. We are talking about a punch cut, whose sponge parts are connected by a mixture of rum, lemon juice and jam, thus turning the dry semi -finished product into an unforgettably supple mass. Combining with jam and spilling with a sweet icing gave the cut the last drop, which might still be missing. But be careful – not to forget: on the surface of the entire stocking block from which the sliced rectangles were sliced, it had to be “scared” with chocolate.
A simple but charming lashonka
Another of today’s somewhat neglected at the look of simple desserts is the Laskonka. Two incredibly fragile ovals, which are surprising that they do not spill at the first look at the plate, are connected by butter cream with coffee flavor. The ground nuts mixed in white snow, from which the mentioned pancakes are baked, contribute to the perfect taste. It was not necessary to decorate such a dessert, its greatest advantage was the taste and mainly compared to others quite long durability.
Sentiment is not in place
Do you also like to remember these desserts, or rather their taste at that time? The more sentimental of us often resemble their “honesty”. It is true – at that time there were no artificial fats and other substitutes, we did not even talk about plant whipped cream. Various emulsifiers, preservatives and similar additions were practically not used. This was also one of the magic of the taste of socialist desserts. In addition: to go on Sunday, or even on a trip, it was not so common to the pastry shop. All the more rare it was and we still remember them to this day.
Are still with us, just not so visible
Although there are many beautifully decorated desserts in various shapes, colors, tastes and price categories in the confectioneries today, in most showcases, these traditional pieces are still in the corner. Maybe right next to Kremoli, coffins, Indians, peaks and other desserts that do not need beautiful curls from whipped cream and almond dolls for their popularity – simply because they are sweets that overcome decades (and centuries).
