The victory over German Nazism, Italian fascism and collaborating states is the strongest moment of the 20th century. In connection with Thursday’s 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, this was stated by the Chairman of the Association of Towns and Municipalities of Slovakia (ZMOS) Jozef Božik.
He pointed out the tens of millions of victims of the greatest war in history. The honor of their monuments is considered to be an expression of thanks to current freedom, peace and democracy. “This day 8. May must remain a permanent reminder of the price of peace, not just as a word from history, but as the daily reality we live today. How much peace is in our streets, satisfaction in our families, silence without sirens and explosions, ”he stressed.
“All of this is not a matter of course. It is a heritage won by the blood and suffering of those who stood here in the fight against hatred and evil,” added. At a time when humanity is facing war conflicts again and therefore considers their threats as a common duty to prevent the repetition of dark events from the past.
He also pointed out that towns and municipalities throughout Slovakia commemorate the anniversary of wreaths at the Memorials of the Victims of World War II on Thursday and these days, by a reverent assembly or silent moment.
