Change the strike law? "There is no parliament to change the legislation," says Marcelo

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considers that strikes can have a greater impact when they happen during the election campaign period. The President of the Republic did not comment on the statements of Luís Montenegro but recalls that, at this time, the Law of the Law to Strike cannot be changed because there is no parliament.

The President of the Republic was questioned Thursday about the . Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa says that “each one does the campaign as he wants and assumes the responsibilities later for the future.”

“The president does not comment anything. I just just verify analytically that in the election and pre-election period there is a higher incidence of work conflicts that often existed potentially, but which gain greater expression in the election period,” said Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Adding below that “It is also natural for political protagonists to comment on one side and the other, supporting and others disappointing.”

To journalists, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that he considers that strikes could have a greater impact when they happen in the election campaign period.

“We know that the right to strike is a worker’s right, but of course that in a difficult period (…) creates problems that are not universal, for example, the Tagus railway crossing is doing normally, but it is evident that it turns out to have consequences in people’s lives. (…) We already know that strikes are a call of elected election care.”

Regarding the possibility of amending the Law of the Law of the Law to Strike, Marcelo recalled that this cannot happen, at least for now, because there is no parliament.

“The question is not at this time. There is no parliament yet, Parliament will be elected and then we will see exactly what happens,” he said.
