Today, Wednesday, May 7, the Vatican convened the processes for the election of the new one. However, on the first day it seemed that they failed to agree on the selection of the new Pontiff.

In the Conclavian, and in particular in the election of the new Pope, the Cardinals, the senior members of the Catholic clergy, who are also known as “Princes of the Church”, participate.

Only those cardinals who are under 80 years of age can be involved and eligible. Already, two have stated that they cannot attend due to health problems. At the same time, another cardinal, Angelo Bekiu, who was convicted of fraud and embezzlement.

.

All the cardinals co -operate and the oldest of them, Giovanni Batista, is co -operated. In the afternoon, at 17:20 Greek time, the total of the cardinals under 80 years of age, who participate in the Conclain process, went from the Paolina chapel to the Sistine Hat, where the gates closed after about ten minutes and the first vote began.

Where do the basic electors come from?

with the Italians “dominating”. Ten is from the US, 23 from Asia, 21 from Central and South America, and 18 from Africa.

How is the electoral system functional in the Conclave?

Each cardinal will be given an office on which there will be a pen and a stack of ballots with the words “Eligo in Summum Pontificem”, which means “I elect as high modifice”, printed on the top. On these papers, they write the name of their preference, fold it in the middle and place it in a bronze ash.

Conclave: Black tobacco for the election of a new pope - what is coming

Every day, three auditors are selected by lot from their number, along with three doctors, as well as three curators, collect the ballots from the cardinals, who are severely ill, to be able to find themselves in the Sistine Hat.

The ballots are counted twice before they are closed with a needle- which punches the word “eligo”- in a bundle. The ballots are then burned on a stove.

If there is no effect, chemicals are added to make the smoke black. If there is a successful candidate, chemicals are added, which convert white tobacco.

Tobacco travels through a chimney to the Sistine Hat to another chimney, which is installed on the roof. Firefighters are on alert for everything.

When white smoke comes out of the roof chimney, the bells also ring, marking the election of the new Pope. The crowds outside are then informed about the event, “Habemus Papam”, that is, “we have a Pope”.

When will we see “white tobacco”?

From Thursday, May 8, four votes will be held each day until one candidate will gather the majority of two -thirds. One can see the smoke from St. Peter’s Square at 10.30 local time – as in the event of the election of the new Pope – and at 12 noon.

In the afternoon, in the event of a great vote, white smoke will come out around 17:30, otherwise the chimney and stove of the Sistine Hat will be used at the end of the day and after the fourth vote, at around 19:30 in the afternoon of Italy. Then the smoke coming out, if there is no pope, will remain black.

Specifically, if the desired result has not emerged earlier, the cardinals will burn on the stove of the Sistine Hat at the end of their morning and afternoon session.

What will happen to the new Pope?

O: “Do you accept your normal election as a supreme monidic?” If he agrees, he must decide his papal name.

The cardinals will swear obedience to the New Pope.

It will then be transferred to the next room, the tear room, where it will change the crimson uniform of the cardinal and wearing a white papal. Usually, small, medium and large rashes have been manufactured in advance.

This time there is a belief that the Vatican has recycled a rack, which were made for previous concussions.

Conclavic questions

One of the main questions expected to be answered by the Conclave is whether the conservative wing, which includes cardinals mainly from Africa, Eastern Europe and part of the US, has plenty of votes to turn the pendulum back to the dogmatic papal hegemonies of St.

Although 108 of them a little bit, it is not certain that all of them will support candidates who embrace his vision. Many of them, especially those who have been recently appointed, are lacking experience and are less familiar with the Vatican dynamics, so, according to some estimates, they may be seduced by simplistic slogans of “unity”.

At the same time, there are practical issues that will be borne by the decision: the age of the candidate, his geographical origin, his ability to manage the bureaucracy of the Holy See. A younger Pope can form the Church for the coming decades, but it may find it difficult to balance the opposing currents strengthened by his predecessor’s term.

How much will the conclave last?

Conclave could take a few hours to a few weeks.

The longest session in history took place in the 13th century. At that time, the procedures had lasted two years and nine months. Since the beginning of the 20th century, most of the concussions last two or three days.

If no candidate has secured a majority of two -thirds after 13 days of voting, a repeat round is held between the two top candidates. However, in this case, two -thirds of the Cardinals are still required to be required to elect a Pope.

Although in this case there is still deadlock, it is not clear what will happen.
