Team would be looking for a German brand agreement while maintaining a current contract with Nike until 2029
Corinthians is in addition to Adidas for a new sports equipment supply contract from 2026, according to information released by the portal this Thursday (8.mai.2025). The São Paulo club still has a bond in force with Nike until 2029.
According to the portal, the alvinegro club seeks better financial conditions, but faces contractual obstacles that may result in penalties.
Nike currently pays R $ 30 million per year to Corinthians, which has not received readjustments since 2018. By comparison, Flamengo receives R $ 69 million annually from Adidas, an amount that would be close to what the German company offers Corinthians in a possible 10 -year contract.
The contract between the São Paulo club and Nike establishes specific obligations for similar situations. “If the club receives a genuine offer from a third party, it should notify Nike in writing”determines an excerpt from the document. Another part warns: “Failing to notify Nike about an offer will be considered a material violation of the contract.”
Predicted sanctions include contractual termination with the possibility of legal action and 50% reduction of guaranteed royalties and revenues. According to UOLCorinthians did not make Nike formal notification about conversations with Adidas.
The relationship between the club and Nike has deteriorated since last year. In December 2024, the American company activated an automatic renewal clause, extending the bond by 2029 without changing the original terms. The Corinthian board considers this renewal “Abusive” and contrary “Market logic”.
The club also demonstrates dissatisfaction with the services provided by Fisia, Nike representative in Brazil since 2020, when the SBF group took control of the distribution of products. At the time of signing the original contract, Nike still operated directly in the country.
Earlier this year, Corinthians’ legal and marketing departments tried to renegotiate the contract conditions with Nike, but were unsuccessful, as automatic renewal had already been triggered.
Adidas demonstrates caution in negotiations because of the club’s administrative instability. The president of Corinthians currently has 4 requests for impeachment. There is concern that a possible agreement signed during the current management may be invalidated if the president is removed.
