CP stop generates political debate on changes to the strike law

The strike of CP workers, with 100% adhesion, generated debate in the election campaign. Luís Montenegro and Pedro Nuno Santos differ on labor legislation.

The stoppage of CP workers and their effects on the lives of thousands of citizens entered the election campaign. Luís Montenegro defended changes to legislation on strikes, while Pedro Nuno Santos considered that such a proposal would be a “affront to democracy.”

The Prime Minister made these statements during a visit to the works of a building under construction in Figueira da Foz, where she performed with a dress similar to that of a worker.

The strike, with a 100%adhesion, was called by 15 CP workers unions, including the driver’s union. The issue of changing the strike law was even addressed by the President of the Republic.

Regarding the strike, Luís Montenegro accused her of having political party motivations, an accusation that the 15 unions involved denied in a joint statement.
