Coach Leonardo Jardim regretted on Wednesday (7) the premature elimination of Cruzeiro in the South American Cup, after the 1-1 draw with the mushuc Runa in Riobamba, Ecuador, for the fourth round of Group E.

But he warned that in the future he does not want to see Cruzeiro again in the South American Cup, the second most important competition in South America.

After this traumatic experience, Jardim wants the club thinking big and among the best on the continent at the Copa Libertadores.

“It’s an experience that can’t play this competition. We can’t play this competition in the future, and I think Cruzeirenses don’t want to play this competition either. We want to play another competition, the competition in which the best (Libertadores) play,” he said.

Remaining games in the South American Cup

Cruzeiro will face Palestinian-Chi on May 14 (Wednesday), at 9:30 pm, at first at Mineirão, in Belo Horizonte, for the fifth round of Group E. The closure of participation in the tournament will be on May 28, at 21:30, also as principal, against Unión Santa Fe-Arg.

Cruise Challenges in 2025

With the fall in ‘Sula’, Cruzeiro changes the key to the Brazilian Championship and the Brazilian Cup this rest of the year.

In the Brazilian Cup, Cruzeiro beat Vila Nova-GO 2-0 in the third phase game on May 1. The return match will be on May 22, at 19h (Brasília), at Serra Dourada Stadium, in Goiânia.

In Brasileirão, Cruzeiro is the fourth place, with 13 points, behind Palmeiras (16), RB Bragantino (16) and Flamengo (14).

The next celestial commitment in Serie A will be on Sunday (11), at 16h, against Sport, on Retiro Island, Recife.
