Entities advocate inclusion of fishing in the climate background – 07/05/2025 – Panel

About 30 entities in the sector of and Aquaculture signed a letter directed to members of the UN conference on climate change, asking for the inclusion of the activity, so that it has access to better financing conditions.

The document was prepared during an international event held in late April in Belém and had more than 6,600 participants. In the letter, the entities propose a set of measures considered structuring to promote the sustainable development of aquaculture and fishing in Brazil, especially in the Amazon.

Among the actions is the inclusion of aquaculture and fishing in the actions of governments, promotion organs and financiers such as low carbon activity, for the production of food and the generation of work, employment and income and the preservation of the forest.

It also suggests the training and training of professionals and opening new work fronts and increasing investment in the production chain and the dissemination of aquaculture and fishing products.

For the organizers of the event, COP30 is a historic opportunity to put Brazil and the Amazon at the center of global solutions.

“Belém’s letter is a milestone. She shows that the Amazon has real answers to climate and food challenges,” says Altemir Gregolin, president of IFC Amazonia and former Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture. “It’s not just about preserving the forest, but about developing responsibly.”
