Donald Trump congratulated the new Pope, the first American pontiff, describing this as a “honor” to the country.
The US President declared on his social media platform, Truth Social: “Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who has just been named Pope.”
“It is a great honor to realize that he is the first American Pope. What an emotion and what great honor for our country. I look forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV. It will be a very significant moment!” Wrote Trump.
