The most popular desserts of the Polish People’s Republic, which Poles still remember with sentiment to this day are not only: chocolate block, bajaderki or wuzetek. In the 1960s and 70s, a sweet Sultan cream was also on top, which was based on: whipped cream, cocoa, raisins and nuts.

The name of the Sultan cream does not have one specific explanation. He does not refer directly to the Ottoman Empire or any other ruler or the creator’s exceptional passion for the orient.
Rather, it comes from Sultan raisins, which seemed to our grandparents and parents an exotic and luxurious product. The taste and sweetness of the dessert were associated with something special and worthy of a “sultan”. This name suggested an exquisite meal that attracted clients to the premises in the 1960s and 1970s.

Check how to make a Sultan cream and you will be able to enjoy the iconic dessert from the PRL at any time. Contrary to appearances, it is not difficult to prepare. Make it in a version for adults, or without “strengthening” so that younger family members can enjoy it.
Sultan cream – ingredients:
- Sultan raisins – a handful
- Cream (36 percent) – 400 ml
- powdered sugar – 5 tablespoons
- Bitter cocoa – 3-4 tbsp
- milk/ dark chocolate – pieces
- Rum (optional) – 40-50 ml
Start preparing the Sultan cream by pouring raisins into a small bowl. Then pour them with rum (if you prepare a version of the cream for adults), wait 30 minutes and strain dried fruit with a strainer.
Pull a larger pot from the kitchen cabinet, beat the foam rigidly, at the end not forgetting to pour powder sugar into the dish. Then divide the whipped cream into two parts.
Transfer one of them to a separate bowl – Pour cocoa, raisins and mix thoroughly so that the ingredients combine with each other. Take out the cups or higher glasses, pour the cream on their bottom, and put the whipped cream up and sprinkle with grated chocolate, cocoa and other raisins. Put the finished Sultan cream in the fridge. He should spend an hour in it.
