Choice came out after the fourth vote on the second day of the conclave
A little more than 1h after white smoke came out of the chimney of the Sistine chapel, the new Pope’s name was announced by the Catholic Church.
Robert Francis Prevost will be Pope Francis’ 267th Pontiff. The American cardinal, who will be called Leo XIV, will appear on the porch of St. Peter’s Basilica as thousands of faithful celebrate the appearance.
The choice came out after the fourth vote on the second day of the conclave. It took at least 89 votes from the 133 cardinals present in the millennial rite.
