Pope Francis’ successor is elected. At the fourth vote, it finally came out white smoke from the sistine chapel, an unmistakable sign that the cardinals gathered in conclave reached consensus on the new leader of the Catholic Church.
The moment, awaited by thousands of faithful in St. Peter’s Square in Rome, took place at 6:10 pm (5:10 pm in Lisbon). The traditional white “smoke”, visible from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, was received with applause and emotion by the present.
The Conclave was attended by 133 cardinals, 71 different nationalities, including four Portuguese.
The name of the new Pope will be announced soon from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, with the celebrated Latin phrase: “Habemus Papam!” At this point, the world will know the name of the elected cardinal and the pontifical title he has chosen for his papacy.
“Pope”:
Because the conclave has chosen the new Pope, Bishop of Rome.– Why is it a trend? (@Porktendencia)
