Serbian students in protests call on early elections as a solution to the country’s tension. Under pressure, several high -ranking representatives have resigned.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučič on Wednesday bequeathed to students organizing anti -government protests that they will not have to wait long for early parliamentary elections that they consider to be the only solution to the political crisis in the country. Informed AFP. According to her, Vučič did not mention any date when the elections could be announced, TASR writes.

Serbia is currently shaking protests led by students. They are a reaction to the collapse of a concrete superstructure above the entrance to the railway station in Nový Sad. This tragedy occurred on November 1, 2024 and 16 people died, mostly students.

Part of the Serbian public associates this tragedy with corruption, which in their country influences the daily lives, activities of government institutions and the implementation of buildings. Serbian students called for the immediate dissolution of the parliament and the organization of early elections on Monday, or less than a week after their protests for the first time joined the trade unions.

Students may start preparing to prepare

“They will not have to wait long for the elections, they should start preparing,” said Vučič in Moscow, where he will participate in the Victory Day celebrations. “When will they be? When an unauthorized institution is signed by them,” he added in an allusion to students who have been calling him “unauthorized” to address their requirements for several months, AFP explained.

Under pressure from the protests, several high -ranking representatives, including Prime Minister Miloš Vučevič, mayor of Novi Sad Milan Djurič and ministers of transport and trade, have already resigned. However, these gestures did not satisfy the public and the protests continue. The new government, elected by Parliament in mid -April, is now led by little -known professor of medicine Djuro Macut.

Protestants’ requirements include deduction of responsibility for a tragedy in Novi Sad, prosecution of persons who have attacked demonstrators, withdrawal of accusations against students detained during blockages and examining the alleged use of sonic cannons during the March demonstration.
