The national president, returned on Wednesday (7) to make predictions for 2026 who put in his list of priorities to be next to the governor of (Republicans), or launch his own candidate for the presidency of the Republic.
Despite having three ministries in the Government (PT), Kassab signals not to consider it likely to climb on the petista’s stage – and it claims not to see contradiction in this situation.
“There is no antagonism, on the contrary, shows a healthy party, a party with good paintings, with respected people who have synergy with society,” said the leader in the House of Representatives, where he attended the solemnity of membership of Deputy Luciano Amaral (AL) to the party.
“Therefore, it is a contribution from a party like the PSD to our country, for our democracy to present one, two or three candidacies that, we know, have value and are recognized by society as good people, as people who know how to manage, know how to do the good policy.”
Kassab, who is secretary of government of the State of São Paulo, has mentioned that he will be next to Tarcisio, whatever the decision of the governor, to try to reelection or to face Lula’s possible attempt to obtain a fourth term.
Asked if the PSD trend is not to be with Lula’s side, he replied that he is still early for definitions, but he stressed that he was more likely his own candidacy.
“Saying not being with the government would be very strong, because within the party we have allies of the government. The tendency of any large party is always to have an effort to have our own candidates,” he said, citing the governor of Paraná, Ratinho Júnior, and the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, in the event that he leaves the PSDB and joining the PSD.
Kassab also talked about his assessment that Lula, even worn out, can be a difficult candidate to beat in 2026.
“What I said is that President Lula has a lot of experience, third term, is a person who is in the exercise of the presidency, is always a strong president. But government is government and always has to face his wear and tear can generate a low expectation of reelection.”
The PSD controls the Ministries of Fisheries, Mines and Energy and Agriculture. Although he did not participate in the Lula plate in 2022, he joined the petista still in the transitional government.
Like the other four parties that make up Lula’s center and right -wing alliance – Union Brazil, PP, Republicans and MDB – the acronym houses an important dissident focus.
Despite the successive episodes of instability, Lula has no strength to hit these subtitles, as the left controls only about a quarter of the chairs of the camera and the Senate.
Together, the five parties have 11 ministries ,. The name of Tarcisio, as Kassab manifests openly, is now the strength to attract most of these forces policies.
The governor of Sao Paulo, however, has not announced if it intends to compete for reelection or the Planalto Palace. There is, more than that, the obstacle to awaiting the definition of Jair Bolsonaro, whom he was minister and through which he won the government of Sao Paulo.
Bolsonaro is ineligible due to convictions in the Electoral Court and faces the coup plot’s criminal proceedings. So far, however, it has publicly maintains the speech that it intends to reverse this situation and apply in 2026.
If not, he can also choose to support other names other than that of Tarcisio, such as the children Eduardo and Flávio Bolsonaro.
