A new intervention team for the brown bear has been operating on the territory of the Muránská plateau since May. The intervention team has a headquarters in Murani and will be in four districts. This was stated for TASR by the director of the National Park Administration (NP) Muránska Planina Jozef Sisák.
“Based on the analysis of the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic and communication with national parks and the state protection of nature of the Slovak Republic, the Muránska Planina was selected as one of the territories for the headquarters of the intervention team,” He explained Sisák, saying that the team of four members has currently had an intervention team. Its task will be, in particular, the monitoring of the occurrence of a brown bear, scare, capture or possible elimination of problem individuals, coordination with local governments and hunters or prevention and minimizing the risks of conflicting situations between man and bear.
The intervention team in Muran will operate in the districts of Revúca, Rimavská Sobota, Rožňava and part of the district of Brezno. “The intervention team has received one bear report since the beginning of its operation. The team members were to explore the site in which the bear was seen, placed photopasses there and monitor the situation,” Sisak approached. He also added that last year the employees of the NP administration Muránska Planina dealt with in the competence area in connection with the occurrence of a brown bear of four cases.
The establishment of a new intervention team for the brown bear in the territory of the Muránská plateau was also taken out last December by the government. The proposal from the workshop of the environment counted on the reorganization of intervention teams in Slovakia. Since the beginning of the year, three intervention teams have been created, namely the West, Wednesday and East, as well as teams in the Tatra National Park and the Low Tatras National Park. The material also included the emergence of Muráň, Fatra and Poloniny intervention teams.
