Packed by the best result ever in the regional elections of Madeira in March, JPP believes it is closer than ever to elect deputies for the Assembly of the Republic.
O JPP (Together for the people) shone in the recent elections in Madeira. The party obtained the best result ever in the early regional legislatures of March, with 11 Deputiesthus becoming the Opposition leader when surpassing the PS.
If JPP maintains the same number of votes it achieved in March this year in Madeira, in the regional elections, the party will get Elect, for the first time, deputies for the Assembly of the Republic.
JPP competes in 10 electoral circles: Coimbra, Braga, Faro, Setúbal, Porto, Lisbon, Madeira, Azores, Europe and outside Europe. In the legislative elections of March 10 last year, he obtained, in all, 19,145 votes (0.31%), unable to elect any deputy.
The Madeira Circle elects six deputies To the Assembly of the Republic, where they currently have three representatives of the PSD, two from the PS and one from the arrival.
But this year is different. THE JPP has never been so close of the Assembly of the Republic.
JPP believes in the election of deputies
Speaking to journalists, this Friday, the head of JPP’s list by the circle of Madeira, Filipe Sousasaid that the autonomous region needs a “different voice” in the Republic and was confident in the election.
“What the Madeirans need is a different voice, a voice that has no commands in Lisbon, and I believe that this time it will be possible”He said, quoted by Lusa, considering that the JPP could reinforce the vote against the early regional elections of 23 March, which obtained more than 30,000 votes.
“There may be many (voters) who can also be added to, once and for all, have a different voice in the Republic,” he said, adding: “We believe that the population of Madeira and Porto Santo can make history in these elections.”
What distinguishes JPP?
In the “Little” debate this Tuesday, Filipe Sousa made it very clear that the JPP’s great mission is Madeira and the Madeirans: “It is for them that I am here.”
Despite this premise, ahead of the way, the leader of the Madeiran party proposed to improve the living conditions of all Portuguese – “Not only of the geographical islands, but the islands that make up Portugal as a whole, like young people.”
This Friday, in a campaign action, in the center of Funchal, Filipe Sousa stressed that the JPP is distinguished from “traditional parties” for its “humanistic matrix and proximity to the population” and, therefore, believes it will “mark the difference in the national panorama”.
“Os traditional parties are completely submissive to party logic and commands in Lisbon and cannot solve the problems of autonomy, ”he argued, indicating some data that proves the poor performance of such parties in the Assembly of the Republic.
Filipe Sousa highlighted the High young unemployment rate in Madeirathe rate of population employed in Poverty Riskwhich said it affects about 20,000 Madeirans, and the rate of Risk of exclusionwhich covers about 70 thousand people, as well as the high public debt that “chokes regional finances in over 600 million euros a year.”
The JPP was born from a movement of citizens in the municipality of Santa Cruz, in the east of Madeira, whose municipality has led since 2013 with an absolute majority, and became broken in 2015, the year that elected five deputies to the Regional Parliament.
Filipe Sousa is one of the founders and former president of the party, but currently has not assumed any position of leader, being mayor of Santa Cruz since 2013, a role he suspended on April 7 to head the list to legislatures.
