Merz said after meeting with European Council chief António Cost, that Europe supports US President Donald Trump’s proposal for unconditional 30-day weapons peace between Russia and Ukraine. “Russia is now invited to finally agree with a longer ceasefire that must create space for a real peace agreement,” said the Federal Chancellor.
At the same time, however, warned against further sanctions if Russia does not cooperate. “If this is not the case, we will not hesitate to increase the pressure of sanctions along with our European partners and the United States,” he added. Trump’s ceasefire plan is, according to Merza, the form of a joint statement willing to support France, Poland or Britain in addition to Germany.
