Mexico filed a lawsuit on Google for changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the US Gulf for users in the US.

Mexico has sued Google to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the US Gulf users for Google Maps in the United States, said Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday. According to the AFP report, TASR writes about it.

“The action has already been brought,” said the Mexican head of state at a press conference, but did not give details about when and where they filed it.

The US House approved a change

On Thursday, the US House of Representatives approved the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the American, which would be the January decree of President Donald Trump – after approval in the Senate – could become a federal law. Other countries may continue to use its original name.

Google has already introduced a change for American users Maps in February. Sheinbaum then warned Google that she is considering legal steps unless the company does not change its decision.

Mexico refuses to change

According to Sheinbaum’s government, Trump’s administration has no power to such a change and in the past stressed that the Gulf of Mexico is an internationally recognized name.
