A report from the Union Comptroller General (CGU) revealed that criminals used selfies collected from social networks and photographs leaked from databases from the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) to falsify payroll loans authorizations.
Given the complaint, the federal government determined, on Thursday (8), the for all Retirees and Pensioners of the INSS. The measure is an attempt to protect beneficiaries from new fraud.
According to the government, from now on, any new payroll loan can only be authorized with the use of facial recognition in the my INSS application.

According to the CGU report, the scammers collected selfies and photos leaked on social networks or databases, using them to authorize the hiring of loans assigned to the name of retirees, without their knowledge.
In many cases, victims were fooled to provide these images with promises of access to retirement or retirement values.
With this data, the criminals were able to authorize loans on behalf of the policyholders, who only discovered fraud by realizing the discounts on their benefits.

Protection
To avoid further fraud, the government has established that facial recognition will be mandatory for hiring any INSS payroll loan.
Facial recognition technology, legally recognized as an advanced electronic signature, will ensure that only the beneficiary himself can authorize operations.

The measure also responds to previous criticism of the Federal Court of Audit (TCU), which, in a report of 2023, pointed out failures in the INSS consignment and discount control system.

According to the document, the volume of payroll payroll loans went from R $ 57.5 billion by 2021 to R $ 89.2 billion by 2023, a growth that attracted the interest of scammers.
Courts in several states were already recognizing that the isolated selfie was not sufficient proof of consent, especially in cases involving elderly, illiterate or vulnerable people.
