Robert Prevost is the 1st US Pope, but built much of his career in Peru, where he worked in the 1980s and 1990s, and became naturalized Peruvian. It is polyglot and regarded as a cleric with diplomatic skills.
According to the New York Times, the new pontiff has positions similar to that of Pope Francis, and tends to continue their reforms. Like the Argentine pontiff, Leo 14 is committed to the poorest and the rights of immigrants.
On the other hand, it is more discreet and less liberal than its predecessor. Already criticized the “Homosexual lifestyle” in a discourse in 2012 and placed itself against school education that “Seeks to create genres that do not exist”.
