From classics restored to unpublished premieres in Brazil, CineSesc transforms film experience into a sensory dive with face -to -face sessions, online screenings, debates, courses and workshops
May 7th to 21st, the in São Paulo, it becomes the meeting point of the true lovers of cinema. In its third edition, the Love to Cinema Show – a realization of the – goes beyond conventional sessions, creating a complete experience with classic and contemporary movies, debates, courses, workshops and even children’s sessions. The opening took place with the unprecedented debut in Brazil of “Volveréis”, the new movie by Spanish Jonás Trueba, awarded in the fortnight of the filmmakers in Cannes. The film follows a couple, celebrating, unusually, the end of the 15 -year relationship – and is already among the best of the year for publications such as Cahiers Du Cinéma and El Mundo.
The selection of films of this edition explores the cinema as a theme, highlighting narratives that discuss its language, impact and transformations. There will be 38 titles displayed in person and 12 available at Sesc Digital, allowing free access to movies from anywhere in Brazil, through the institution’s website or application.
In-person highlights include jewelry such as “close-up” (Abbas Kiarostami), in 35mm copy, “the dreamers” (Bernardo Bertolucci), remastered in 4K, and “Fedora”, by Billy Wilder. National cinema also has a remarkable presence with works such as “Strange Way”, by Guto Parente, and “Mambembe”, by Fábio Meira, as well as shorts that dialogue with the country’s memory and cultural identity.
The exhibition also dedicates a special space to the film language in transformation in the rupture track, bringing together works that break with traditional structures such as Chantal Akerman’s “Jeanne Dielman”, Sean Baker’s “Tangerine” and Thomas Vinterberg’s “Family Party” in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Dogma 95.
Biographical documentaries also gain space with portraits of names such as Jean Cocteau, Michel Gondry, Pauline Kael, Miyazaki, Fellini, Pedro Almodóvar and François Truffaut, offering multiple looks at cinematic doing and its influences. Thinking about the formation of new audiences, the traditional Cineclubinho offers special Sunday sessions for children, with lived live animations and free interactive activities in the CineSesc lobby.
The programming is completed with formative activities. Cristina Amaral and Thiago B. Mendonça conduct the 3x Tonacci course, while director Pedro Freire teaches a management workshop. Online courses discuss topics such as Cinephilia on social networks and the role of women in the Hollywood Golden Age. Registration is made through the Sesc São Paulo website and vacancies are limited. Love to the cinema is more than a show – it is an invitation to rediscover cinema in its multiple forms and times, with alert eyes and open heart.
