Brazilian cardinal Dom Leonardo Steiner said on Friday (9) that Pope Leo XIV will not exempt himself from social and environmental issues, assessing that he is a “man who has a lot of sensitivity.”

“Certainly it will not be exempted from this whole question that has to do with the poor, the peripheries, the original peoples, the environment, where the earth is suffering, where people are suffering,” said Dom Leonardo in response to the question of the question CNN.

The cardinal stressed that the new Pope has great sensitivity to social issues, recalling the period in which he was in Peru and his dedication to the poorest.

“He will help us walk this path, which is the path of peace,” he pondered.

Still, Dom Leonardo pointed out that

“[Leão XIV] It will be him, it will not be a repetition of another Pope. It will be the one who has so far been, a great missionary, a dedicated man, a man with an extraordinary view of the church and the world, ”he said.
